Sign Update: Your Questions Answered
We’ve received some great questions about our new sign, so here’s the scoop:
Will it be lit up?
Yes! Spotlights will be installed soon. Before that, we need to drill into the ground, run lines under the road, and connect to the power pole. If all goes as planned, the sign should be lit within the next couple of weeks.
Why not light up each individual letter?
There are two reasons:
- Upkeep: Replacing a single spotlight bulb is much easier and more cost-effective than maintaining multiple bulbs in each letter.
- Funding: Spotlights were a practical choice, made possible by fundraisers, grants, and the hard work of our volunteer sign committee.
Why patina the letters instead of painting?
It’s about meaning and maintenance:
- The patina on the front represents Scribner’s rich history, while the bright silver sides reflect our bright future.
- Patina lasts longer than paint, which can fade and chip over time. We wanted a design that stands the test of time and ensures the sign remains a lasting symbol of our town.
Is the sign finished?
Not yet! Lighting is still being added, and we’re planning a rock landscape that includes stone stairs leading up to the letters. This will create an ideal spot for photos.
What’s next for the landscaping?
We’re collaborating with Indra out of Fremont to decide whether to start the stonework this winter or wait until spring. Spring may be the better option, as the ground will settle more effectively.
Thank you for your continued excitement and support—this sign is just the beginning of Scribner’s bright future! It’s more than a landmark; it’s a symbol of pride, progress, and all the big things ahead for our community. Stay tuned for updates!
